We “archive activists” discovered this animus-drenched memo at the National Archives in a box marked U.S. Civil Service Commission/ “Suitability”.   Homosexuals were declared “Unsuitable” for government employment, the reason? “What it boils down to”, wrote attorney John Steele, “is that most men look upon homosexuality as something uniquely nasty….”.

“Uniquely Nasty” became the title of a documentary about our work, produced and directed by investigative reporter Mike Isikoff for Yahoo News.  “Uniquely Nasty” went on to win the Edward R. Murrow Award in 2018 for best News Documentary.
