Our research is conducted by professional researchers and one of the largest law firms in the United States, using public sources including Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and appeals to ensure that LGBT-related documents are surfaced. We began by researching J. Edgar Hoover’s “Sex Deviate” program. The LGBT document category has been “invisible” prior to the gay rights movement. We know the names. We work with the curators. We want to see what actually happened, a kind of “truth and reconciliation” program for our time and our community.
